I Can't Allow Rancour To Prevail - New Majority Leader Afenyo Markin Says

The newly appointed Majority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for unity as he takes over from Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, today.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament for the first time as a Majority Leader on Friday, February 23, he said “The unity of this house will depend on me and I can’t allow rancour to prevail…I call for your cooperation.”

His Predecessor, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu resigned on Wednesday 21st February, 2024. Subsequently, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wrote a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, announcing Afenyo Markin as the new Majority Leader.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Subin MP called on Parliament to support his successor to succeed.

“I introduce to you Afenyo Markins who takes over from me as Majority Leader,” he said.

Meanwhile, Afenyo Markin described Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu as a "big shoe" he is going to wear.

According to the NPP, the newly appointed leadership for the Majority caucus is as follows:

-Majority Leader: Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu

-Deputy Majority Leader: Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa

-Majority Chief Whip: Frank Annoh Dompreh, MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri

-First Deputy Majority Chief Whip: Habib Iddrisu, MP for Tolon

-Second Deputy Majority Chief Whip: Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, MP for Sefwi Akontombra
