Kofi Adams Replies VEEP

The Spokesperson of the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams says his boss criticism of the NDC government is not as a result of its slowness in prosecuting former government officials but rather the slow pace in investigating perceived acts of corruption and malfeasance. Mr. Adams was speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday June 16, in response to Vice President John Mahamas claim that criticisms of the Mills government from within the NDC were unfair and hostile. The Vice President said this during an interview with VOAs Shaka Ssali on the Straight Talk Africa programme. But according to Kofi Adams, instead of instituting appropriate committees to investigate allegations of corruption, the government rather relied on previous committee reports which could not stand up in court. Mr. Adams said the report of committees like the one set up to look into the Ghana@50 celebrations, set up by the NDC government have been handled incompetently. He said the Mills-Mahama government is spending too much time investigating officials of the previous administration to the detriment of development. When a political party is voted for a four year mandate, you dont spend all the four years looking into issues that you raised in the course of your campaign. We talked about many things which we felt were happening that needed to be investigated. We talked about the sale of Ghana Telecom which we said there was so much corruption (sic) to the extent that even a Member of Parliament in that Government continues to lambast our government for doing nothing about that deal. At most, what I would have thought is that, in the first year, you quickly look into things and then what you cannot see you forget about it he insisted.
