A teenage mother has been arrested by the Police in Garu-Timapane in the Upper East Region for reportedly burying her day-old baby.
Eighteen year old Ayishetu Osman allegedly buried the live baby shortly after self delivery.
Joy FM�s Joseph Osei reports that the body of the baby was later devoured by dogs after improper burial.
The Garu-Timpane District Police Commander, DSP Richard Appiah said the attention of residents of the town was drawn to the gory sight of dogs feasting on the dead baby.
He said the police rushed to the unsightly scene and were shocked by the finding.
DSP Appiah said investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, Ayishetu Osman, a student of the Garu DA Junior High School.
�During interrogation, she informed police that she was impregnated by one Evans Yakubu in December 2010. After Evans Yakubu impregnated her, he ran away to Kumasi and she did not inform the parents and therefore was hiding the pregnancy from the parents,� the Police Commander said.
The suspect said she gave birth in the night while attending nature�s call and decided to dig a hole and bury the baby.
She is currently in police custody pending further investigations.
