Kofi Adams: To Say Im A Togolese Is Senseless

Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Adams, has rubbished reports that he is a Togolese national and not a Ghanaian. To him, the allegations are not only absurd, but plain mischievous. He was reacting to claims by a one-time close ally of former President Rawlings, Alfred Woyome that he (Kofi Adams) was not a true Ghanaian. According to Mr Woyome, who is currently a co-opted member of the Volta Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), investigations conducted into the background of Kofi Adams revealed that his real name is Kofi Adamu, and that Adamu was his (Kofi Adams) original name, adding that it was surprising Kofi Adams has rejected the name his father gave him just to cover up his identity. But speaking in an interview on Peace FMs Kokrokoo Morning Show, Kofi Adams dismissed the allegations, stating emphatically that no-one bears the name Adamu in his family line. According to him, the name on all his personal documents including his birth certificate and passport is "Iddie Adams Kofi". My name is not Adamusince I was born, nobody in our family has ever used the name Adamu. I am the last of seven children and we are all called Adams not Adamu, and I have never been called Adamu on any occasionI have mates all over this country and I have worked for so many years in this country and my full name, which I have on my birth certificate and passport, is Adams Iddie Kofi, he explained. Throwing further light on his family lineage, Kofi Adams stated that his great grand ancestors on the paternal side hail from somewhere in Nigeria and not Togo. According to him, his maternal lineage is 100 percent Ghanaian, from the Central region and Northern Volta. I am 100% Ghanaian, I dont have any lineage in TogoI trace my great grand ancestors from far away Nigeria on my paternal side. My mother is a full Ghanaian, my mothers paternal side comes from the Central region and her maternal side is from the Northern Volta. I trace my fathers paternal side to Nigeria, they settled in Salagathen all the way down to Asamankese. My grandfather was born at Salaga, he expatiated. The spokesperson for the Rawlingses said he believes his opponents have hit a dead end and cannot find anything negative to say about him, hence this desperate attempt at concocting stories about his Ghanaian citizenship, all in a bid to distract him. but it will not workIm unperturbed by all these allegations, Kofi Adams said.
