Clash At Konadu Meeting

Former First Lady and contender in the flagbearership race of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings entered the Eastern Region yesterday in high spirits but was greatly disappointed after a two-hour meeting with almost a full house of regional executive members of the party at the regional secretariat in Koforidua. Nana Konadu and her campaign team which included her campaign manager, Michael Teye Nyaunu and spokesperson, Kofi Adams, left the conference hall of the secretariat around 1.00pm clearly in low spirits, after the regional executive members clashed with Mr Nyaunu who is an NDC MP from the Eastern Region, for leading a smear campaign to discredit his own government and party. The former First Ladys team had arrived with most of them in white boubou while Konadu spotted a white headgear and cloth with the local name Afie Mmosia, literally meaning the gravels in your own house could be very dangerous, with some FONKAR members receiving the team at the party office. No regional executive member officially welcomed the wife of the NDC founder. Journalists who were hovering around the meeting place overheard the bust-up between the two parties engaged in the meeting, with members shouting at the top of their voices. Daily Guide sources said the party executive members which included First Regional Vice Chairman Kwakwu Adjei; Second Regional Vice Chairman Alhaji Sumaila Mahama; Regional Organizer Bismark Tawiah Boateng; Regional Womens Organizer Evelyn Koran; Deputy Womens Organizer Catherine Ayakwa; Regional Youth Organizer Kwaku Asamoah and Deputy Regional Secretary M.M. Doh were clearly not happy with the bashing of the government by the Lower Manya MP and lambasted him for his stand against his own party. The altercation attracted the attention of a certain Tiger, a Police Corporal who had been detailed to provide security for Konadus entourage and he attempted to enter the conference hall but was driven away by the Regional Organizer. The policeman was livid and threatened to teach the Regional Organizer a lesson for driving him away because his duty there was to protect Nana Konadu and her entourage. Daily Guide learnt that the meeting between the regional executive members and Nana Konadus team was very cordial but the bust-up with her campaign manager nearly marred the otherwise peaceful meeting. Teye Nyaunu stormed out of the meeting place about 30 minutes before the meeting officially ended and boarded his car to Somanya where Nana Konadu was scheduled to meet delegates from the Asuogyaman, Lower Manya, Upper Manya and Yilo Krobo constituencies. However, after the meeting, Kofi Adams told journalists that it was very cordial, unlike the Brong Ahafo region where the regional executive members were deliberately caged and engaged by the powers that be to prevent them from meeting Nana Konadu and her campaign team. He said it was clear that Nana Konadu was going to win the July 8-10 congress; and so the partys hierarchy was doing everything possible to frustrate her and her campaign team. It is going to be double-double for Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as Prof Atta Mills himself has been professing, Kofi Adams noted, explaining further that Nana Konadu will win the presidential primary one touch and go ahead to win the presidency in 2012 with the assistance of Prof Atta Mills to give meaning to the double-double prophecy.
