The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Fifi Kwetey has denied newspaper publications claiming that government is funding a Prophetic Conference being held on Friday, June 24 at the Conference Centre. The Conference which is being organized by a group, Prophetic Destiny of Ghana Intercessors, led by one Reverend Eli Lumor, under the theme �Ghana in Prophecy� is aimed at informing Ghanaians about the plans or prophecies God has for the country and what needs to be done to bring it to fruition. The Daily Guide newspaper in its Thursday edition reported that the Conference is just a cover for recruiting prophets to whip up support for President Mills with a GHS 40,000 budget for that agenda. According to the report, the prophets intend to declare at the conference that President Mills has been ordained by God to rule the country for another term. The newspaper also states that Fifi Kwetey is playing an active role in the organization of the Conference and claims to have tapes in its possession to back their story. But Fifi Kwetey has dismissed the story saying neither he nor President Mills is in league with the organizers. In an interview with Adom FM on Thursday, the Deputy Minister explained that the Conference has nothing to do with the NDC or President Mills but is simply about the destiny of Ghana and what God has said concerning the future of the country. He said he had always been interested in matters that have to do with the country�s destiny or future so when he was contacted by Rev. Eli Lumor about such a conference, he took a particularly keen interest and even had discussions with him about it. He said President Mills� name did not even come up in the discussions nor was there anything about government sponsoring the event. Fifi Kwetey said because of his interest in Ghana�s destiny, he had spoken to other Men of God who had received prophecies or visions about the country so Rev Lumor is not the first person he had spoken to and he would certainly not be the last. He said the publication sought to suggest that the President must be desperate; he is not doing well and needs the help of prophets to convince Ghanaians that he is the man appointed by God when that is clearly not the case. Fifi Kwetey also rubbished the Daily Guide�s claims of possessing a tape of a conversation between him and Rev Lumor saying there is nothing like that. �Even if they do have such a tape, it will not have such a conversation; there will be no conversations about government sponsoring the conference.� Meanwhile, the prophet at the centre of the controversy, Reverend Eli Lumor has also denied the story expressing surprise at the publication. He said what they are doing had nothing to do with any President or government but is merely about trying to bring to light God�s prophesy about Ghana which dates back to Biblical days when Jacob blessed the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim. Rev. Lumor said all Men of God in this country know about such prophecies and have had discussions with successive governments starting from first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah till date. He said Dr Nkrumah even sent people to Israel, all in a bid to bring this prophecy to life and lift Ghana and Africa as a whole out of the doldrums. He disclosed that he spoke with former President Rawlings in 1995 about the same matter as well as Vice President John Mahama while his wife and a colleague also spoke to former President Kufuor in 2000 before he even became President. Rev Lumor said he spoke to Fifi Kwetey about the prophecy because the Deputy Minister has the vision of God at heart and it was also nothing extraordinary because that is what they did all the time. �I am surprised that people are reading so many meanings into the issue. I have never met President Mills, he doesn�t even know me. Nobody knows me� and I have not received a pesewa from anybody.� He described the Daily Guide publication as mischievous because government had no hand in the conference and it is not about President Mills, adding that it is unfortunate how Ghanaians always read political meanings into even the most innocent of issues.
