Mad Rush For Volta Oil

Information reaching City & Business Guide indicates that many multinational oil companies are trooping to the offices of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) following the discovery of huge oil deposits in the Volta basin. A representative of the Jubilee Partners, Kennedy Nunoo, who disclosed this to City & Business Guide during the First Jubilee Oil Exhibition Tour in Ho last week, said there are scientific data that suggest that the Voltaic Basin, which stretches from Ada to the Keta basin and its environs, has huge deposits of oil. He however refused to name the companies that have shown interest in the oil deposits in the Volta region, adding that the data also suggest that the oil deposits could be found both onshore and offshore basins. Mr. Nunoo explained that the nature of the deposits requires special technologies and expertise, which according to him, will be taking into consideration before any company is put on board. He noted that the deposit is there and what is left is for companies to do appraisal and subsequently begin drilling to ascertain the actual quantities, quality and potentials of the basin. He was optimistic that the Volta region will soon join oil producing communities across the world. Mr. Nunoo advised Voltarians and all Ghanaians not to sit idle and hope that oil production will guarantee wealth for them. He called on the citizenry to strategically position themselves in order to benefit from the oil revenue, urging land owners and property owners in the Keta basin and its environs to make positive investments so that they could take advantage of the oil revenue. Mr. Nunoo also advised pupils and students to show keen interest in the oil industry, which he described as very lucrative. He also appealed to parents to encourage their wards to undertake courses, urging Voltarians and all Ghanaians to learn about the industry in order to understand its dynamics and related activities.
