Konadu Boys Run To Police

Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) says it is more than ready to face members of President Atta Millss campaign team, Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME), face-to-face if the latter tries to prevent the former from going to the congress grounds on July 8, 2011 in Sunyani when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) goes to elect a presidential candidate. The Director of Operations, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, yesterday had cause to go to the Nima Police Station to lodge a formal complaint with the police about claims of death threats on their lives by anonymous persons who have been calling them on their mobile phones. Mr. Owusu-Bempah went there in the company of other members of the Konadu campaign team including Dr. G. A. Pele, Daniel Tamakloe, Mohammed Nasiru and Saminu Mohammed. Owusu-Bempah, who obtained a diploma in journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in the year 2000, claimed FONKAR members including himself, Dela Coffie and Saint Osei who played active roles in the group had been receiving calls from anonymous persons warning them not to show their faces at the congress. But District Police Commander DSP Aduhene Bennieh could not take their complaint because a security team had been put in charge of the forthcoming congress and advised them to inform the police team that had been formed to provide security for the congress. He told them to go to the police headquarters to see the officer in charge of the team and make a formal complaint, which they did later in the day. In spite of that, Communications Director for FONKAR Dela Coffie, who describes the upcoming congress of the NDC as a rescue mission, told Daily Guide we can no longer tolerate them and we are ready to face up with them. Asked how they were going to face up with them, he said, Whatever means that is possible, we are ready to face up with them. According to him, If anybody dares to do something that will threaten the peace of the party and the peace of the Nana Konadu campaign team, we are not going to sit back and allow people to do what they think they can do. If anybody dares touch any FONKAR member, it will be something terrible that they wouldnt be able to handle because we are accountable for our membership and our membership is not going to sit by and allow anybody to do anything to any of us, he warned. If somebody touches any one of us, it will be something they wouldnt be able to handle, he added, saying, If President Mills is really in for peace, he should make sure that his appointees and those supporting him, he calls them to order because we can no longer tolerate these threats and intimidation that are going on. Dela claimed they were aware of the individuals and groups behind some of those threatening text messages and phone calls. He said most activists of the party were appalled at the way President Mills was handling situations in the party. He has supervised divisive politics; he is unable to unite the rank and file of the party. Apart from that, he said, the President had also watched on sheepishly without concern whilst his people have questioned the status of former President Rawlings as founder of the NDC. That, according to him, was the more reason FONKAR members had decided to support Mrs. Rawlings since she represents hope and unity in the party.
