The Editor of the Enquirer newspaper, Raymond Archer has opined that the Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Yaw Akrasi Sarpong should have been specific in his outburst that some political parties use proceeds of narcotic trade to fund their campaigns. Citing the wikileaks report which stated emphatically that the then ruling party (New Patriotic Party )was being financed with drug money, Raymond Archer noted that, the wikileak's report should be enough evidence for Mr. Akrasi Sarpong to mention the names of those involved in the illicit trade. Mr. Akrasi Sarpong early this week was bombarded mainly by the NPP when he warned that political parties intending to use drug money for the 2012 electioneering campaign must look elsewhere. The NACOB Boss noted that his outfit had cause to believe that some politicians could be using proceeds from the narcotic trade to fund their campaign in election 2012. Some NPP members dared the NACOB Boss to go beyond the rhetoric and name those politicians who are on his watch list. Speaking on Asempa FM on Wednesday, Raymond Archer stated that in as much as the drug issue should not be politicised, the NACOB Boss� generalization of the drug issue rather makes every political party a suspect. According to him, the NACOB Boss has nothing to fear when it is a statement of fact that a key Member of Parliament Eric Amoateng who was a financier of the NPP was arrested in the United States for drugs. The Enquirer Editor added that the Nkoranza North MP who is serving a 10-year jail term in the US over for trafficking heroine on December 11, 2005 would have been be walking a free man should the incident had happened in Ghana. Raymond Archer observed that the issue raised by Mr. Akrasi Sarpong should engage the attention of every Ghanaian who has the integrity of Ghana at heart. He praised NACOB for being proactive in the fight against the illicit trade in the country and within the West African sub-region.
