Youth to benefit from experiences of senior citizens

Alhaji Issahaque Salia, Upper West Regional Minister, has given the assurance that Government would create space for senior citizens in the country to share their experiences with the youth. He said there was the need to constantly recall the history of Ghana for the younger generation to appreciate the values of nation building, which entailed sacrifice, dedication to duty, being each other�s keeper, discipline, hard work and the sense of belongingness. Alhaji Salia was addressing senior citizens from the Region, to mark the 51st Ghana�s Republican Day celebration, at Wa on Friday. The Minister said Ghana stood the risk of losing the essential values that identified the people as a united front, and warned against the influence of foreign culture, misplaced modernization, materialism and greed. Alhaji Salia appealed to Ghanaians to support efforts aimed at ending chieftaincy and land disputes. which according to him were creating disunity among the people. He tasked senior citizens to use their experience to resolve conflicts and disputes to promote peace and unity for national development. Alhaji Salia said Ghanaians could not afford the high price of conflicts and wars, and indicated that the government and people appreciated the role of senior citizens in national development.
