President's Cup: Kotoko Boycott Presentation Ceremony

Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday left the Accra Stadium disgruntled following what they described as unfair officiating on the part of Class 1 referee Awal Mohammed. Consequently, they boycotted the medal presentation after losing 6-7 on penalties to 2010/11 league champions Berekum Chelsea in this years Presidents Cup. Results at the end of regulation time was 2-2. The referee ordered Chelseas Alfred Arthur and Abdul Basit to retake their spot kicks which they had missed earlier, as a result of goalkeeper Abdulai Soulamanas movement from the goal line before the two kicks. The two players took the spotkicks again and converted them. The decision did not go down well with the Porcupine Warriors which necessitated a temporary hold up. It was Kotoko that fetched the opener through striker Alex Asamoah, who connected an Ahmed Toure cross home with his right foot in the 19th minute. Chelseas new recruit Gladson Awako, who had a fine afternoon, replied three minutes later with a header from a rebound. Awako set Bismark Idan up six minutes to the end of the first half to increase the tally. Kotoko substitute Fataw Mohammed pulled even 16 minutes after the break with a volley to beat goalkeeper Ernest Sowah. The victory thus makes it Chelseas treble over Kotoko, twice winners of the Presidents Cup and their second silverware this season after winning the premiership. By Kofi Owusu Aduonum
