The University of Ghana says it is taking steps to sanction ten (10) students for their involvement in the molestation of a suspected female thief at the Mensah Sarbah Hall some months ago. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ernest Aryeetey said the students are at fault for bringing the name of the institution into disrepute. Some nine students are already standing trial in court for molesting Amina Haruna for allegedly stealing laptops at the Mensah Sarbah Hall. They have pleaded guilty to the four charges levelled against them. However, Professor Aryeetey in an interview with Citi News said the University�s sanctions are independent of what the court will say at the end of its trial. He said the sanctions which could include dismissal were recommended by a committee set up to investigate the actions of the students. �The committee that was put in place by the disciplinary committee has finished its work and have submitted to me a report and recommended sanctions that we should apply. "Within the week we would be announcing the sanctions. Those we would sanction are people that we know were involved. �The police showed interest in some individuals and some were also of interest to us. There were over forty (40) students that were of interest to us and out of the 40 we would sanction not more than ten�.
