POTAG Warns Government

The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana POTAG is accusing Government of stalling the effective implementation of the single spine pay policy. POTAG says there appears to be no commitment from major stakeholders towards the policy. The leadership of the Association is set to hold a news conference on Tuesday July 5, to outline its concerns about the policy and express its unhappiness with the delay to migrate its members onto the pay structure. President of POTAG Anthony Ayarkwa told Citi News Government must act quickly in its own interest. POTAG believes that the implementation of single spine is being thwarted by lack of commitment by policy makers and stakeholders in the implementation. We think that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and Government for that matter, is stalling the whole process and we believe that the earlier they work towards properly implementing the single spine, the better it is for members of POTAG". At the Press Conference, we are going to give details of what has transpired so far and what we think are the bottlenecks that are hindering the whole process and how we believe Government can act to forestall the situation we find ourselves. We are just informing the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission that inasmuch as we have an agreement with them to implement the single spine, we believe that their actions and inactions give indications that its deadline will not be met he noted. Members of the Teachers Education Workers Union (TEWU), and nurses across the country, have also warned that they will embark on strike if Government fails to meets its deadline of migrating them onto the new pay policy.
