Robbers Arrested With Engagement Items

Items suspected to be dowry for a traditional marriage ceremony have been retrieved from some robbers at Owusu Ansah, a suburb of Adenta in Accra. The items, which included 12 half-piece assorted wax prints, four pairs of ladies shoes, four pieces of scarves, a silver ladies bag with shoes to match, a piece of white and black kente cloth for men and a white lace material, were contained in two separate suitcases found in the possession of Oko Daniel, 21 and Kwabena Odoru, 24. The two, according to the Adenta Police Commander, DSP Stephen Ahiatafu, were arrested by neighbours in the Owusu Ansah community when two hairdresser apprentices, who were once victims of the two thugs, identified them and raised an alarm. They were hauled to the District Police Station where they confessed to the police that one Agoe, a younger brother of Oko, was responsible for trading their booty but he was currently at large. The police suspects that Agoe may be perching with some relations at La, their hometown. While Kwabena is a second-hand clothes dealer, Oko claims he is a carpenter. They both live at Ashiee, an Adenta suburb. On Monday June 20, 2011, at about 11am, the two, together with Agoe, attacked the two victims and threatened to stone them if they refused their demand. The robbers succeeded in bolting with their mobile phones. On Saturday, at about the same time, the two ladies were running an errand for their trainer when they spotted their attackers at the same place they were attacked. They then shouted for help, drawing residents to the location. Agoe managed to escape but luck eluded Oko and Kwabena who were arrested together with the two suitcases containing the above-mentioned items. The Adenta Police Command is appealing to residents within Frafraha, Ayi Mensah, Ashiee and Owusu Ansah communities who might have been victims to such nefarious activities to report to the station. It also appealed to anybody who might have lost such valuables, as mentioned above, to visit the Adenta Police Station for identification of the items and also lodge an official complaint with the police. DSP Ahiatafu used the opportunity to warn young persons in the community to desist from such acts to avoid being arrested to face the rigours of law.
