Concerned Teachers Break Away From GNAT

Leaders of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers say they have decided to call off their hunger strike and break away from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT). According to them, it appears GNAT executives are adamant about their concerns and could influence the police to victimize their members. The coalition declared a four-day hunger strike on Tuesday to press home its demand for the resignation of the leadership of GNAT and NAGRAT. Speaking to Citi News, Spokesperson for the group, Ernest Opoku said, it is not worth it to, stay hungry while GNAT executives are unwilling to appreciate their concerns. Look at what happened to us some days ago about 200 teachers were arrested by the Police and were later released. "Looking at all these reasons and other things we decided that the best way to go about this is to break away from GNAT and form a new union". "There are countless number of teachers who also think that GNAT is not ready to listen to our concerns and for that matter the best way to go about it is to break away. After all there is the Labour Act that allows a new union to be formed.
