Akufo-Addo Consoles Flood Victims

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, on Thursday went to the Ofoase community in the Central region to sympathise with victims of floods that hit the community six weeks ago, displacing nearly all residents. Speaking on behalf of the people, the Odikro of Ofoase, Nana Asare Kofi Acquah, thanked Nana Addo for the visit, noting that we are grateful to Nana Addo for this warm gesture. He has showed that hes a leader who cares about the welfare of the masses and on behalf of all my people, I say a big thank you to Nana Addo. He also asked Nana Addo to, on behalf of residents of Ofoase, thank the MP for Agona East, Hon. John Agyabeng, for the help and support he continued to give them. He said, Nana, but for our MP, we dont know what we would have done. He has stood by us at all times, especially in difficult moments like these and we are very thankful to him. He continued, The rains are closing in on us and our homes are rapidly being washed away and it is obvious that we cannot continue to live here anymore. Our MP, John Agyabeng, has secured a portion of land for us to relocate and has provided us with building materials to start putting up the buildings, but I want to humbly appeal to Nana Addo to help us with some more building materials to support what Hon. Agyabeng has provided us so far. He also lamented that most residents passed the night sleeping on cloths on the floor of a collapsing school building, and appealed to Nana Addo to support them with blankets and mattresses. The Odikro also mentioned to Nana Addo and his team that the rains had also washed away all their food crops, denying them their livelihood and food on their tables, adding that, Nana it is a difficult situation we find ourselves in and we know you will help us. The fact that you thought about us and decided to drive all the way here shows that you have our plights and concerns at heart and would help us, he added. He prayed for Gods blessings for Nana Addo and his team and wished him well in all his endeavours. On his part, Nana Addo said, Odikro, I am saddened by the difficult circumstances that you and your people are going through and I sympathise strongly with you. The NPP flag-bearer explained that he was informed about their plight on Thursday morning and decided to visit and sympathise with them first before starting his tour of the Central Region. Nana Addo noted that, We vote for governments to provide the people with help in difficult times like these and this is all my motivation to lead our nation. He assured the residents that God willing and the Ghanaian people so consenting, when the NPP comes back to power in 2013 under my leadership, better times will come to Ghana and all such problems will be responded to with all the swiftness that it deserves. After inspecting the extent of damage the floods caused to the homes and properties of the people, Nana Addo assured them that he would immediately provide them with assistance to help alleviate the suffering the floods had brought on them. Nana Addo has been touring the Central region since Wednesday and has so far been to the Awutu Senya and Agona East constituencies.
