Obuasi: - Residents in Obuasi and its environs on Monday did not hesitate to bring to the attention of Nana Akufo-Addo, the difficulties they face on a daily basis trying to make a living. A taxi driver upon seeing Nana, got out of his taxi threw his hands in exasperation and said �Nana, ever since the NDC came to power in 2009, we have been suffering �double double�. Petrol prices have double doubled and we just can�t wait for the return of the NPP.� The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo last Monday took his listening campaign to the Obuasi Constituency in the Ashanti Region. Residents complained bitterly about the bad nature of their roads, petty traders complained about collapsing businesses mainly because �people don�t have money to buy our wares nowadays causing business to grind a standstill.� Chiefs and elders complained amongst others about the NDC governments refusal to continue infrastructural projects started by the NPP, collapsing social interventions such as NHIS, School Feeding Programme and Capitation Grant, all introduced by the NPP, and lack of jobs for the youth. Farmers complained about post harvest losses mainly as a result of bad roads whilst mothers also lamented how difficult it has become to send their children to school. At the Obuasi central market, market women and residents summed it all up in a song �we are suffering double double; Mills is killing us double double; Nana come and save us double double.� The zongo communities were not left out as residents took turns to assure Nana Addo that in 2012 they will vote for the party that makes their lives better. �We have been deceived for far too long by the NDC but we have compared both the NPP and NDC and we know it is the NPP that can bring us prosperity� noted Abass at the Auntie Bee zongo. At Binsere, Kofi described how he had to finally resort to herbal medicine to treat his failing eye sight because of the frustration nature of the NHIS. �When you go to the hospital, they either tell you that the medicines you need have been removed from the list of medicines covered by the insurance scheme or they will tell you that they have run out of stock. But that didn�t use to be the case when the NPP was in power. Today I have resorted to herbal medicine and hoping that God will intervene and save me� he told Nana. The listening tour of the Obuasi constituency took Nana Akufo-Addo to communities such as Kunka, Binsere, Anyinam, Korfekrom, Auntie Bee, Kwabrafoso, Tutuka, Boete, Akapriso, Kwabenkwa and Obuasi, visiting lorry stations, markets, timber markets, shops, and palaces.
