Adjiri Blankson : I Had No Hand In Tackie Tawiah's Installation As Ga Mantse

The former Mayor of Accra, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson has moved to quash rumours linking him to raging Ga chieftaincy disputes and the installation of embattled Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Tawiah III. Mr. Adjiri Blankson points out that he is not a king maker, adding that even though he comes from James Town, a suburb of Accra, James Town people do not install Chiefs. He however indicated that he was at the coronation of King Tackie Tawiah III who is known in private life as Dr. Jo Blankson because he (Adjiri Blankson) had been invited. Speaking to the media for the first time on the Ga chieftaincy disputes, the former AMA Chief Executive emphasised on the Wednesday July 20, 2011 edition of Citi FM's Eyewitness News that it would be erroneous for anyone to link him to the troubles emanating from the installation of King Tackie Tawiah III because they happen to share a similar surname. I was in Sweden when my wife called me and said 'they say because you are Mayor, you have brought your brother to be the chief but "I was not involved at all. The age old fracas in the Ga State was resurrected a few weeks ago, during the installation of a new Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Adama Latse II although Nii Tackie Tawiah III had not been destooled as Ga Mantse. Nii Tackie Tawiah III was enstooled during the tenure of office of the New Patriotic Party government. Rumour was rife at the time that top NPP officials including then Tourism Minister Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I.C. Quaye and Stanley Adjiri Blankson, who was then the Mayor of Accra were very instrumental in the installation of Nii Tackie Tawiah III. However, Mr Adjiri Blankson said as part of his duties as a Mayor, he had a set of agenda he was supposed to follow and fourth on the agenda was to assist traditional rulers hence his involvement in the Ga chieftaincy matters. But this did not translate into his playing an instrumental role in the installation of Nii Tackie Tawiah III, he insists.
