Court Adjourns Adisadel College Sodomy Case

The Cape Coast Circuit Court trying the former Mathematics teacher of the Adisadel College (ADISCO), Mr. Richard Arthur-Payne, on a charge of sodomy has adjourned the case to August 29 to enable the police to complete investigations. Mr. Arthur-Payne is alleged to have sodomised several students of the college, resulting in the illness of one of them. At its sitting on Monday, the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Asare-Nyarkoh, gave the police a one month ultimatum to complete investigations for justice to be dispensed. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Francis Kingsford Ockom, had told the court that the police were yet to complete investigations and therefore urged the court to adjourn the case. When the news first broke, the school authorities set up a committee, which found the teacher culpable and dismissed him. The Headmaster of the college, Mr. H.K.K Graham, however reported the case to the police only when the issue came into the public domain. Mr. Graham has since travelled to the United States to cool off after the arrest of the accused person. The accused told the court when the case was called that his counsel, Mr. Arthur-Dadzie, had to attend another court, although he had earlier been present in the court.
