University Of Ghana Warns NUGS

The University of Ghana has warned the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) against urging students of the university to boycott the next academic year. President of NUGS, Hamza Suhini on Wednesday July 27, called on the students to stop paying their school fees until there is a reduction. Students of the University are on a collision path with authorities for a reduction in a 45% increment in their school fees. NUGS on Wednesday July 27, staged a peaceful demonstration to register their anger over what they described as exorbitant fees. However, authorities of the University of Ghana have strongly stated that students who boycott the academic year do so at their own risk. The University is however, urging the students to pay their fees and register for the next semester. Director of the Universitys Public Affairs Directorate, Stella Amoa told Citi News that a management meeting will soon take place to review the concerns of the students and until then, students must pay 50 percent of their fees for the first semester. The SRC is the mandated student body to speak to management about issues concerning students. NUGS is a body for all students of public universities but at the University of Ghana it is the SRC. Students have no right to tell others whether or not to pay their fees. Nobody from a student body has the right to tell students to boycott school.
