Two In Court For ECOBANK Robbery

Two security men who were picked as a result of the recent robbery at the Accra Mall branch of ECOBANK on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Francis Agbemade and Kofi Yeboah are being held for conspiracy to commit crime. They have pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Mr Eric Kyei-Baffour, admitted them to bail in the sum of GH100,000 with a surety each. Three other people who were involved in the robbery are on the run. Granting them bail, the court noted that the facts presented by the prosecution were unable to explain the role the accused persons played in the said robbery. The accused persons are to reappear on August 18. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Blagodzi said on July 21 a group of three armed men stormed the Accra Shopping Mall branch of ECOBANK and took away 48,000 dollars, 9,000 Euros, 4,500 pounds and GH195,233.81 at gun point with the assistance of the accused persons, who were on duty. DSP Blagodzi said the robbers succeeded in bolting with the money. The prosecutor said the movements of the accused were captured by the CCTV camera and the police were making efforts to capture the three remaining robbers.
