Baba Jamal: University of Ghana Should Re-consider Their Decision

A Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal has called on the university of Ghana authorities to re-consider their decision on the recent increment of school fees. The increase has met stiff opposition with hundreds of students taking to the streets in a demonstration. Although the president of the National Union of Ghana Students has advised students to boycott the next semester unless the school fees are reduced, the school authorities are adamant. In an interview with Citi News, Baba Jamal stated that there is the need for the university authorities and the students to dialogue on the subject. He said according to the students, they had an agreement with the students before they left that they are going to increase the fees by 10%, so if you have had an earlier agreement with them, what caused the change? "In a situation where you have agreed with us and you go against your word, certainly you give us cause to demonstrate. "I think that authorities should sit with them and find a way of balancing it and continue to keep the sizeable number that cannot pay to still continue to enjoy that situation so I think that I would plead with both sides to sit down and resolve this issue.
