Ashaiman Gas Explosion: Death Toll Rises

Municipal Assembly officials at Ashaiman have confirmed that seven victims of the July 25, 2011 gas explosion have now died. Four of them died this week at the Korle Bu teaching hospital while undergoing medical treatment. Three of them died a few days after the incident occurred and have all been buried. The Municipal Chief Executive for Ashiaman, Nomo Addinortey Addison has told Citi News that the assembly is saddened by the deaths. �Yesterday (August 4), we performed the funeral rites for one of the deceased who was Muslim. We pledged a donation of �500 to the families to assist them financially and will certainly do the same for all those who have passed away.� The MCE said it was indeed a solemn occasion adding that fire service personnel as well as the food vendors who owned the malfunctioning gas cylinder were all there to pay their final respects to the family of the deceased. The six remaining victims are still on admission at the Tema General Hospital and the Ridge Hospital.
