We Are Not Fools, President Mills!

The Volta Youth for Unity and Development reject the comments by President Mills that the government deserves more credit in the region. The comments by President Mills can be described as best as an insult to the intelligence of the people in the region. We are not mincing our words to say this! We have also noted the comments by Reverend Francis Amenu of the EP Church. Some of us are also members of the EP church but more importantly we are unemployed, restless and hungry. What makes him think the Volta Region is calm? Not all of us can go to the Castle and drink fanta and coke! Is Reverend Amenu going to be the campaign manager for the President in the region? We also condemn the mistreatment of our brothers and sisters of the Volta Youth for Action. We salute their courage in the face of harassment and rejection. Mr President, these are honest men and women who mean well. How can they be disrespected like this when they have legitimate concerns? We would like to ask President Mills one question. If it is not because of our son of the land, hero and the first president to come from the region, His Excellency former president Jerry John Rawlings, will a bird even sing for him in this region? President Mills, where are the development projects the region? Is our Regional Minister not only interested in sharing contracts for himself and his cronies? How many times do we have to ask for the minister to be removed only to be met with insults and threats? This situation cannot and must not continue. Our Chiefs led by Togbe Afede and others WHO HAVE MORE SENSE than Reverend Amenu and his fanta and coca cola brigade, have the right to ask questions. They feel they are being marginalised and their opinions and support taken for granted. If our chiefs who are our opinion leaders are unhappy what about we the youth who have no jobs and are sitting at home ? We have a lot of members in this government from the region, Okudzeto Ablakwa, Joe Gidisu, Clement Humado, Fifi Kwetey, Chris Kpodo, Tsatsu Tsikata, Koku Anyidoho, Gershon Gbediame, Doe Adjaho,Alex Segbefia, James Gbeho, and many others. We are sorry to say this but they are all empty barrels, sitting in Accra just talking and doing nothing to help us. We call them on the phone and they never respond! Are you all waiting till the next elections when you will come round on your knees telling us to let bygones be bygones ? We make this humble appeal to President Mills to use the next 15 months to correct all the mistakes and government neglect of projects in the region. We also take this opportunity to call on the President to reconcile with our father President Rawlings or some of us will find it difficult to support him and campaign for him. We cannot and will not accept any more excuses. Thank You, Mr President and God Bless You
