The Ghana Chamber of Commerce is expressing concerns for some of its members over the implications of the ongoing riots in the UK. The riots have led to the closure of a number of shops and super-markets who do business with some exporters in Ghana.
Some of the Ghanaian companies export different products such as food stuffs, natural fruits juices, and different arts works among others.
Even though the companies have not stopped production yet, there are fears that an extension of the situation in the UK could interrupt their business activities.
The Chamber of Commerce says it wants to find possible ways of mitigating the impact on especially exporters as they monitor the situation closely.
Prosper Abablah who is the first Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce has said that the riots are a source of worried.
�The world has become a global village and so anything that happens affects us especially where imports, exports and financial services are concerned. There are quite a number of traditional exports as well as fresh items like vegetables that do not go directly to the UK but go to countries that process the goods which are sold in the UK.
So yes, we are very worried about the recent events because even if our exports do not go directly to the UK, we have goods in the some of the shops that are now under siege�.
When Citi Business News also contacted blue skies company limited, producers of freshly made fruit juice, it said the company is monitoring the situation closely and would later decide whether its exports to the UK could be affect by the riots or not.
