Samir Nasri: Arsenal Lacks Ambition

SAMIR NASRI has launched another bitter attack on Arsenal, claiming they lack ambition and did not try hard enough to keep him. Manchester City's new 24million midfielder turned his back on the Gunners on Wednesday when he finally completed his move to the Etihad Stadium. Nasri accused the Arsenal faithful of lacking passion as soon as he was up the M6 and has now hit out at the club as a whole. The France international said: "I started talks with Arsenal about a contract extension last October. "But June came around and I had not heard any news and I could not see any players being brought in during the transfer window. "At a given point you have to make an investment. I would hear from time to time it was 'a question of money'. "It's fair to say I will earn a good living at City. But I am 24, I have reached a turning point in my career and it was important for me to join a club that matched my ambitions. "I see myself more likely to win trophies at City now than if I had stayed at Arsenal." Nasri also admitted he took his foot off the gas at the Londoners because there was not enough competition for places unlike at his new home. He said: "City have an enormous squad but the competition for places will make me challenge myself and improve my game. "I won't retreat into a comfort zone and maybe that is what I did when I was at Arsenal. "Joining City is a risk but you take risks throughout your life. In any case, I am not afraid I weighed up the pros and the cons." Nasri claims he had a big choice to make between Manchester United and City, although Alex Ferguson never made a bid for him. But even if Fergie had thrown his hat into the ring, Nasri insists City who will pay him 175,000 a week were his first choice. Nasri added: "I did not see myself leaving England. The question arose of whether to go to United or City. "But I prefer to make history with a club, rather than be just one player among the rest. I spoke with Patrick Vieira at City they are the club of the future. "My transfer has been a real saga. It's a huge relief to have finally signed and I am very happy." The French star clinched his switch to City on Wednesday and immediately angered Gunners fans by saying they lacked passion. Now he insists those very same supporters failed to show him any respect by picking on the wantaway star in Arsenal's opening game of the season away to Newcastle 13 days ago. Nasri said: "Theo Walcott told me I was singled out by some fans in our game at Newcastle. That was a lack of respect on their part. I never said a word during the transfer window or expressed a single wish of any kind. "I did not insult the club or the fans, or lack respect for them. In return, I don't want to be insulted by them." Nasri did, however, have some kind words for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and called on Arsenal to keep faith with his fellow Frenchman. He added: "I owe Arsene a huge debt. It's thanks to him that I became an international he really made me realise what I can do and I'll forever be grateful to him. "The only thing I would say is trust Arsene Wenger. "He knows what he is doing. He is a wonderful human being and deserves a lot of respect."
