NDC Supporter Appeals To Government For Assistance

Mr Osei Prempeh, 39, a driver and a supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who was attacked by an unidentified group of people during the 2008 presidential election, has appealed to the Government for assistance. Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Nsawam in the Akuapem South Municipality, Mr Prempeh said during the election he used his Nissan Urvan vehicle to carry food to NDC polling agents. He alleged that on one of the trips he was attacked at Sakyikrom by a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters on suspicion that he was carrying ballot boxes, and his vehicle somersaulted several times during which he sustained severe injuries. Mr Prempeh said he was taken to the Nsawam Government Hospital unconscious and was hospitalized for three months, after which he had both medical and herbal treatment for another six months. He said so far he had spent about GH2,600 and that his vehicle was no longer fit to operate. He added that currently he was not capable of doing any work and, therefore, called on Government to come to his aid. The victims father, Nana Asare Kwame, Gyaasehene of Akwapim-Akropong in the Eastern Region also appealed to the President to come to the aid of his son who could not do any work as a result of the attack he had been subjected to.
