The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Peter Jones, has given the assurance that the stage is set for the hosting of the 2012 Olympics in London scheduled for July 27 to August 12 next year. And as part of activities to begin the countdown for the showpiece, the High Commission will roll out various programs planned for the Olympics beginning October 8 with an inter-Embassy Games, code named, �London 2012�, to host the diplomatic community at the El-Wak Stadium. Coming on the heels of the Inter-Embassy Games intended to host the diplomatic community will be the launching of the �International Inspirations� arranged by the British Council. Briefing the media on planned projects and activities earmarked in preparation towards the London 2012 Olympics at the British Council Hall in Accra yesterday, HE Jones pointed out that venues for the Games have been completed by high profile architects and engineers on time and on budget. Responding to the legacy the Games intend to bequeath, he mentioned that when the Games are over, the stadia will provide first class sporting facilities in the Olympic Park for Londoners, while the athletes� village will also be converted into thousands of affordable homes as well as making London 2012 the �greenest� Games in history. Appointed as the High Commissioner to Ghana in May this year, HE Jones explained the colours that make up the Games logo and Mascot. �The vision presented was to use the power of the Games to inspire lasting change, putting athletes at the heart of planning, getting young people around the world to choose sport, and transforming East London. �We want to show you what makes the UK such a great place to live, work, visit, invest and do business,� he added. CEO of the official travel agents for the Games, African Origin Travels and Sports Tourism, Samson Deen, advised members of the media to contact the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), key partners of the High Commission on time, regarding visa processing formalities. Deen mentioned that his outfit had acquired over 5,000 tickets for the Games and it is still working out for more, depending on how fast it would be patronized. The first vice president of GOC, Frank Appiah, in a short address, gave the Committee�s unflinching support regarding preparations towards the Games.
