Women Storm Ministers House

THE WOMENS Wing in the Ashaiman Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Minister of Roads and Highways, Joe Gidisu, to express their frustration about governments delay in completing projects started in Ashaiman. The party executives, numbering about 14, stormed the private residence of the Minister at Klagon, a suburb of Tema, to demand answers as to why the construction of the roads in the municipality had come to a halt, and to ask the minister to expedite action on them. After leaving the ministers residence, the group moved to the office of their Member of Parliament (MP), Alfred Agbesi, at Ashaiman, then to the office of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Numo Addinortey Addison, where they met both leaders and informed them about the initiative they had taken to bring development to Ashaiman. At their meeting with the minister, Hon. Gidisu was said to have attributed the stalling road construction projects in the municipality to lack of funding, saying that government was working tirelessly to secure funds for the construction of roads in the country. He explained that the state of the roads in Ashaiman was one of the major challenges disturbing his office, and promised to reinitiate the construction of the roads by the end of October. Speaking with DAILY GUIDE, Madam Happy Amegashie, Ashaiman NDC Womens Organizer and leader of the delegation, noted that the aim of the womens wing of the party was to achieve a successful facelift for Ashaiman. According to her, due to the bad state of the roads, many shops near the roads had closed down as a result of the walls of dust caused when drivers used the roads or when the wind blew, hence their call on the minister to speed up construction of the roads. She was optimistic about governments promise to tar the road by the end of the year, saying that with the assurance given by the Minister, she knew the party would deliver on its promise. Both the MP and MCE congratulated the women for registering their grievances in a peaceful manner, and hoped that their steps would bring development to Ashaiman.
