WAEC Publishes Pictures Of Exam Fraudsters

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has maintained that it reserves the right to publish identities of candidates who engage in examination malpractices. Recently, names and photographs of students who were alleged to have been involved in various forms of malpractices during last years WASSSCE Nov-Dec examinations, were published in the dailies. Some child right activists have however condemned the publication describing it as a violation of the rights of those students. The Principal Public Affairs Officer of WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe told Citi News that the move is a policy by the council to reduce the incidence of examination malpractices. These are students who have engaged in malpractices in the 2010 Nov-Dec examinations. Our board has given us the nod to cancel their results and we have written to them. "We have done all we need to do. The council has embarked on this name and-shame policy to reduce the rate of examination malpractices. She added that the examination malpractice incidents were not alleged cases and that WAEC had undertaken a thorough investigation into the matter therefore, the publication was grounded on evidence.
