FONKAR Warn Mills Discipline Your Boys

Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) have cautioned President John Evans Atta Mills to rise above what they described as pettiness and rather call persons around him to order. FONKAR gave the caution in a statement released yesterday and signed by its Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Brogya Genfi, after one of its members, Joseph Yaw Dosu, was alleged to have been brutally assaulted by bodyguards of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Yaw Obimpeh, for daring to advise the chairman to desist from using abusive language. FONKAR wishes to condemn in no uncertain terms these violent and physical attacks on our members by haters of our dear party tradition and fanatics and sycophants of President Mills, the statement said. In the opinion of the group, certain actions by some persons around the president were creating disunity amongst NDC members which, the group asserted, could get worse. The statement further accused the Ashanti regional NDC chairman of using vicious tactics against people who disagree with him. Mr. Obimpeh has pursued an agenda of harassment towards NDC members who came out in their numbers to welcome the former NDC flag bearer aspirant and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, on her tour to thank NDC delegates and members in the region who supported her in her bid to lead the party in 2012, the statement said. In the opinion of the group, the continuous failure on the part of President Mills to discipline his people gives them the inkling that he approves of what is being done to FONKAR members and the former first lady. The group went on to stress that unlike others, FONKAR would not pursue violence and acts of disunity but would take every step to protect ourselves and what we stand for which is to see the vision of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings for Ghana and the NDC come to pass. Recounting an incident between the police and one of their members, George Boateng, who was detained by police for no apparent reason, the group said they see the attacks on their members as a deliberate ploy by supporters of President Mills to disintegrate the NDC. The statement continued that several examples of violent attacks on members of FONKAR by President Mills supporters abound since the end of congress in Sunyani in July.FONKAR has pursued nothing but party cohesiveness. FONKAR has no other interest other than the survival of the NDC. It is therefore very sad when people close to the president continually act provocatively even violently towards members of FONKAR before, during and after the NDC congress in Sunyani. It is becoming clearer to us those in the NDC who are not interested in uniting for the future after the contest. It only re-enforces the notion that certain elements in the party are bent on destroying the NDC and its ideals in order to enable the CPP to survive, it stated.
