The West Africa Network for Peace building, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana), on Thursday described the country�s borders as too porous, posing major security threats.
Mr. Justin Bayor, National Network Coordinator, WANEP-Ghana said the loose nature at the borders and lack of effective security monitoring systems, had resulted into foreigners smuggling all kinds of goods particularly weapons into the country.
He said the situation if not checked and curtailed taking into account the oil and gas find, could pose a great danger to human security.
Mr. Bayor in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said referred to the recent arrest of some refugees who entered the country with weapons and noted how unfortunate it was for them to have outsmarted the security at the various entry points.
He noted that series of information gathered by WANEP-Ghana on the country�s security showed that stakeholders needed to do more to safeguard the nation. Mr. Bayor added that WANEP-Ghana was operating an electronic human security early warning system aimed at preventing and responding to violent conflicts in a proactive manner.
