Police Release Pro-Gaddafi Demonstrators

The Ghana Police Service has released some 22 persons who were arrested for defying a court injunction on a planned demonstration. Most of those who were arrested are leaders of a coalition known as Hands off Libya, Hands off Africa. They were rounded up by the Police after they embarked on a pro-Gadaffi demonstration to the United States Embassy. Earlier, the Acting Director of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, DSP Cephas Arthur told Citi News that the police was still investigating the incident and will release the arrested persons when necessary. In an interview with one of the leaders who gave his name as Hamza on Citi Eye Witness news, with Shamima Muslim, he confirmed that they have been released unconditionally and corrected that the police arrested 22 of them and not 24 as earlier published. According to him, there were two photo journalists who were also arrested by the police whiles they were performing their job. Asked what action they intend taking regarding their arrest and almost 24 hour incarceration, Hamza said that they are in consultation with their lawyers and will carefully look into the injunction to find out where they went wrong. He added that should it turn out they did not err and upon the advice of their lawyers, they will sue the Ghana Police Service.
