Boakye Gyan Deserves To Be Shot Dead At The Stake Titus Glover

A member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nii Kwetei Titus Glover has advised Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan to quickly give up on his dreams of ever becoming the Member of Parliament for Jaman South since it is a safe seat for the NPP. The spokesperson for the defunct Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) has submitted nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primary of the NDC for that seat. An avowed critic of his former boss, Flt Lt Jerry Rawlings, the ex-soldier says he is very optimistic of breaking the opposition NPP's monopoly over the constituency. But Titus Glover reckons the ex-military officer affectionately called Osahene is being assertively arrogant and wonders if he (Boakye Gyan) thinks he is in the army or in the revolution? To him, having created an atmosphere of untold hardship in the country (during the AFRC era) Boakye Gyan should be lined up and shot to death for aiding (albeit indirectly) in the overthrow of a democratically elected government. Boakye Gyan is one person who should have been tied to the stakes and lined up to be shot dead for overthrowing a government, Titus Glover said. On the night of June 3th 1979, a group of young soldiers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) took up arms, with the sole aim of topping the then military government headed by General F.W. Akuffo. These young officers, led by Major Boakye Gyan, succeeded with their plans, and subsequently, rescued Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, who, two weeks earlier had made a similar attempt, but failed from prison custody. Major Boakye Gyan then drove Rawlings in an armored car to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to announce the takeover of the government. Rawlings and his friends then formed the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), which ruled Ghana for three months before handing over power to a democratic-elected government, headed by the late Dr. Hilla Limann. Though the verbal pact was that the 1979 Uprising should be the end to all coups in the country, Flt. Lt. Rawlings breached it by going behind his colleagues who helped in overthrowing Gen. Akuffos military regime to stage another coup to remove Dr. Hilla Limann from power, twenty seven months after he (Rawlings) had handed over power to him, as a civilian head of state. This decision strained the relationship between Mr. Rawlings and Major Boakye Gyan, with the latter using every platform to attack his former pal and best man. Major Boakye Gyan, who was compelled to stay in exile for many years, variously described the NDC party, which was formed out of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) that ruled the country after the removal of the Limann government, as an illegitimate entity. After subjecting the PNDC/NDC governments to such harsh criticisms, Major Boakye Gyan has surprisingly, gone to pick nomination forms to contest the Jaman South Constituency seat on the ticket of the NDC. The sudden U-turn and Boakye-Gyans answers to questions on why he wants to be an MP on the ticket of the ruling NDC, is obviously what has got to the NPP activist. I am coming home but I want to tell you that if the NDC is founded based on the ideals and principles of June 4th, then I can assure you that I am at the right place. We brought June 4th and it is on that note that I will support any group that exists to prosecute the ideals of June 4th, the former AFRC Spokesman said. Speaking on OmanFM, Titus Glover said having decided to do full-time politics, Major Boakye Gyan, should discontinue operating like he used to during the revolution era. We are in a democratic era and if he cant answer questions soberly, then the whole country has to make sure he is not given a mandate to enter into parliament, he warned. According to Mr. Glover, it is on public record that Mr. Boakye Gyan is a CPP member and for that reason should go back to his roots and help Hon. Samia Nkrumah who has recently been elected the partys chairperson to rebuild the CPP.
