The National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has instructed all its members particularly Doctors to stop work on October, 7 2011 if the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission continues to drag its feet on the proposed migration of members of the Ghana Medical Association onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. All issues concerning grading, market premium, inducement and other related matters should be concluded by close of day 7th October 2011. The decision was taken at the end of the 5th National Executive Council Meeting of the Ghana Medical Association in Tamale, the Northern regional capital. In a press statement issued and signed by Dr. Emmanuel Adom Winful, President of the Ghana Medical Council and Dr. Frank Serebour, Assistant General Secretary of the GMA, the GMA demanded full payment of Doctors allowance from January 2010. The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission must show unequivocal evidence of migration onto the SSSS by 7th October 2011 for payment to be effected at the end of October 2011 including all arrears from January 2010: effective date for implementation of the Single Spine Pay policy. The GMA National Executive Council revealed that the nations hardworking Doctors were not enjoying the 20% increment of salaries recently announced by government. The Dr. Adom Winful led Ghana Medical Association National Executive Council therefore vowed never to change its stance until their demands are met.
