Intermittent Power Outages Burn House

Irregular and intermittent electricity supply and outages, which in recent times has been a major source of worry to Ghanaians, is alleged to have resulted in the burning down of the house the family of one Larbi William near the Pentecost Junior High School in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region. The fire destroyed properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis. The items include a laptop and personal computers, refrigerators, televisions, trunks, bicycles and mattresses. The 3-bedroom house constructed of wood is said to be the property of the State Construction Corporation.An eyewitness, Madam Eunice Darko, a resident of the area, attributed the fire outbreak to electricity outages.According to her, on the day in question, there was a heavy rainfall, which was accompanied by the intermittent power cuts. However, the Chief Executive of the New Juabeng Municipality, Alex Asamoah, upon hearing of the sad news of the family, decided to make a visit to have first hand information. The MCE, who was grateful to God that no lives were claimed, donated GH�2,000 to the family to help them rent a new place, as his office brainstorms on ways to resettle them properly. The family thanked the MCE for his kind gesture.
