Policemen Arrested Over 'Stupid' Minister Comment Released

The eight police officers arrested on Monday, and charged with misconduct after they were alleged to have insulted Deputy Interior Minister, Kobby Acheampong, have been released. They are to return to their post immediately and continue with their duties while investigations go on. The police administration has been silent on what kind of punishment the officers could face, but has promised to appropriately sanction them if found culpable of the charges brought against them. Acting Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, indicated that if anything concrete comes out of the investigations, if the allegation made by the Deputy Minister is confirmed then they would face the music." But if after the investigations, nothing adverse is found against them, obviously nothing would happen to them. They would be released to go. "In fact after taking them through the preliminary investigation, they have been allowed to go back to their work. They are not even on interdiction. They have been allowed to go and work after the preliminary investigations, he told Citi News. Meanwhile, the police administration has warned it will not hesitate to sanction any police officer in Cape Coast who embarks on a silent protest against the arrest of their colleagues. The police officers in Cape Coast are reported to be on a silent protest in reaction to the arrest of the eight. The officers are reportedly refusing to enforce road traffic regulations on the Accra-Cape Coast road. They claim the police hierarchy is victimising their colleagues. But DSP Arthur said any police officer found to be deliberately neglecting their duty will be sanctioned.
