Nana In Western Region

THE FLAGBEARER of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is in the Western Region to interact with people in the communities as part of his listening campaign tour in the region. Nana Addos seven-day tour would also enable him to get first-hand information about the concerns of voters in the various constituencies in the region as he prepares for the battle to wrest political power from the NDC in the 2012 general elections. Information gathered by Daily Guide indicated that a large crowd gravitated towards the NPP flagbearer and his entourage whenever they visited towns and villages in the northern part of the region. On the first day of the tour on Sunday October 2, 2011, Akufo-Addo and his entourage joined worshippers at the Bibiani Catholic and Assemblies of God churches to give thanks to God for their safe arrival at the area. Later in the day, the NPP flag-bearer interacted with the Moslem community at Sorano Zongo and other indigenes in the various towns at Bibiani. As he moved along, accompanied by the regional chairman of the party, Nana Owusu Ankomah and some NPP activists, Nana Akufo-Addo exchanged greetings with the enthusiastic people who lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of him. Activities at Sefwi-Wiawso virtually came to a halt as people rushed out in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the NPP flagbearer whom they described as the president in-waiting. What made the occasion more interesting was that for the first time in almost eight years, people in the Sefwi area demonstrated that the area was no more the stronghold of the NDC as they openly displayed the kangaroo dance adopted by the NPP in the 2008 electioneering campaign. He spoke on tolerance, peace and understanding among the political parties and avoidance of acts likely to create tension in the country, adding that elections were about expression of opinions and not exchange of blows. He also outlined some of the innovative plans he had to accelerate the countrys development including free secondary education, enhanced social services, improved salaries to workers and creation of an enabling environment for industrial growth. He told the people that the next NPP government, under Nana Akufo-Addo, would do more to improve the living standards of all Ghanaians. Most of the cocoa farmers in the Sefwi area appealed to the NPP flagbearer that when he became president he should help to revive the mass cocoa spraying exercise which was collapsing in cocoa-growing communities in the Sefwi area. They complained bitterly about the exorbitant prices of fertilizers, the bad conditions of roads in the area and the high unemployment rate in the area, assuring Nana Addo of their unflinching support. Nana Addo also visited Kofikrom, Kwamekrom, Aputu, Kailo and Nkuakrom all in Sefwi Akontombra and Aowin-Suaman districts.
