Teachers Saddened With Low Publicity On Teachers' Day

Some teachers have bemoaned the low publicity given to this year�s world teacher�s day that saying their work is not being appreciated by the government. Speaking on Xfm this morning, some teachers in some basic schools in New Achimota said though they were aware that October 5 was World Teachers� Day, they expressed shock at the low publicity given the celebrations saying the authorities involved had not done Ghanaian teachers good. They said despite all the agitations by teachers in recent times, a day to appreciate their efforts should have been well publicized with some enumerations as well. They have appealed to government to address the agitations of teachers saying they play a vital role in the development of the nation. The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Paul Krampa has however appealed to teachers in the country to re-dedicate themselves and ensure that their students become responsible citizens of Ghana. Mr. Krampa made the call in an interview with Abena Asiedua Tenkorang, host of Xfm�s Big Bite morning show on this year�s �World Teachers Day� which is under the theme �teachers for gender equality�. He said if students do not appreciate a teacher�s work, then there is a problem hence his appeal to the teachers to make their impact on their students, worthwhile. �I want to appeal to my fellow teachers to rededicate themselves and ensure that the children that they teach will grow up to be very responsible persons in the country because if you are a teacher and your students do no appreciate your work then there is a problem�� Mr. Krampa urged all teachers to work hard to ensure that all their students receive the quality education that is expected.
