Lunatics Attack Teachers, Students Out OF Classroom

Drama ensued on Wednesday, when some lunatics within the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region, in a Rambo style, stormed the Riss Presbyterian Basic Schools and chased both teachers and students out of the classrooms. The mentally impaired patients, who have converted the school into their place of abode, brought teaching and learning to an abrupt end, when they stormed the school premises, after they were earlier, prevented by the authorities of the school. Sensing danger, the teachers and their students took to their heels, leaving behind empty classrooms and their teaching and learning materials. Speaking to this paper shortly after the incident, the Headmistresses in charge of the Primary and Junior High School (JHS), Mrs. Mary Hansong and Francis A. Tettey respectively expressed their shock over the action of the lunatics. Even though they claimed the lunatics had been using the school compound, particularly after school, as their sleeping place, little did they think they (lunatics) would behave in that manner on the said day. According to the Headmistresses, their persistent report to the police for support and to the Parent Teachers Association, as well as the Easter Regional branch of Ghana Education Service, fell on deaf ears. The teachers have, therefore, called on the government and stakeholders of the school to help fence the school to prevent intruders from accessing the place. Some of the students, who were traumatized by the actions of the lunatics, at the time of filing this report, were afraid to even go back to school. According to them, they were afraid that the lunatics could come back again, and also called on parents and government to come to their rescue.
