Defender Isaac Vorsah To Miss 2012 AFCON

Isaac Vorsah is in danger of missing out on Ghanas campaign at next years Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The 23-year-old received a straight red card for hitting out on a Sudanese player in the ultimate qualifier which the Black Stars won 2-0 to seal its place at the finals on Saturday. And according to Fifa and Caf rules, the affected player should serve an automatic three-match ban as punishment for attracting a straight red card. This means Ghana Coach Goran Stevanovic will be without the Hoffenheim defender for the three group matches should Vorsah make the final squad for the tournament proper. And usually coaches tend to rather give the opportunity to other eligible players due to the numbers needed during tournaments especially at the group stage. However, there is an option open to the Ghana FA to appeal for the reversal of the booking but until this is done successfully, the lanky defender for now is likely to miss out entirely. It will be recalled that Laryea Kingston had to miss the 2006 World Cup in Germany after receiving a straight in the Nations Cup despite getting his original five-match ban reduced to three. The Ghana coach at the time, Ratomir Dujkovic decided to go with only eligible players even though Kingston at the time was on top of his game. Ghana eventually made it to the second round of which by the time, Kingstons ban had expired and would have been eligible to play at the 1/16th stage against Brazil.
