Nduom Declares Presidential Ambitions Oct. 19

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has set aside October 19 to formally declare his intention to contest for the presidency in 2012 on the ticket of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP). The CPPs 2008 flagbearer promised to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress if given another chance to lead the party to the 2012 general elections. Dr. Nduom was speaking in Tamale where he donated building materials for the construction of a permanent CPP northern regional secretariat. The donation included 84 metallic chairs, 105 bags of cement and seven packets of roofing sheets. He reiterated his plans to strengthen the CPP structures at the grassroots and thus called for all hands to be on deck. On the unity talks with the Peoples National Convention (PNC) and other political parties that believe in Nkrumahs ideologies, Dr. Nduom welcomed the idea, but stressed the need to organise the CPP to win power in 2012 in case the alliance proves futile. Electoral alliance is a good idea but then the CPP will have to work towards winning power in 2012 on its own if the merger talks fail, he explained. Dr. Nduom insisted that organising the CPP for the 2012 general elections should not be left entirely for only the elected executives to handle. He expressed his frustration over the partys abysmal performance during the last elections for which reason every effort must be made to win the next elections. He added that party unity could be the best way to convince the Ghanaian electorate to vote massively for the CPP come the next polls. On his part, the first Vice Chairman for the CPP, Mr. Adu Amankwah, was optimistic that with unity and hard work the party will win the 2012 elections. He implored all CPP members to embark on door to door campaigns to canvass votes for whoever will be elected as the flagbearer and all the parliamentary candidates.
