Public Servants Back Pay For 2010/2011 To Be Paid Next Year

The Public Services Joint Negotiation Committee has reached an agreement with government for all accumulated salary arrears for 2010 and 2011 to be paid by the end of July next year. The agreement was reached yesterday after a series of negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. This was contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers, Irene Duncan-Adanusa. According to the statement, the agreed payment trenches are as follows: two months salary arrears will be paid by end of this month while in December, three months' salary arrears will be cleared. The remaining arrears will be spread from February next year to July. The nonpayment of the salary arrears coupled with the absence of a clear road map for the payment has been the cause of concern for the National Association of Graduate Teachers, NAGRAT. Five regional branches of the association, namely Greater Accra, Upper West, Ashanti, Western and Eastern have embarked on a strike. With this agreement, the national office has since directed such regional branches to immediately call off the strike.
