Accra Holds First International Motor Fair

Golden Stool Promotions, a subsidiary of Occupational Management Limited (OMG), has orgasnised the first-ever Accra International Motor Fair to launch Ghana on the international calendar of motor fairs and exhibitions. The Accra International Motor Fair on the theme Driving Ghanas Automotive Industry Forward is designed to bring together under one roof players, stakeholders and consumers of automotive products and services within the countrys automobile industry and beyond. The two-day event highlighting the countrys automotive industry presents a high-level platform for participants to benefit from numerous opportunities and potentials for trade and business expansions. Event Director of OMG Africa, Paul Asinor, said the position of Ghana as an emerging economy with the recent discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantities - coupled with its growing middle-income class, positions the country as one of the fastest-growing economies. There is need for a world-class motor convention as it pertains in the United States and Europe as well as Nigeria and South Africa, Mr. Asinor said, adding that the Accra Fair will serve as a stimulant for the growth, development and sustainability of the countrys automotive industry. The fair offers opportunity for organisations and individuals who cannot visit car showrooms, or have no idea when it comes to buying a car and its accessories -- as well as car insurance and latest financing schemes to interact directly with experts. Mr. Asinor also noted that the fair is intended to offer solutions to other issues, and also provide the platform for leading automotive brands to showcase their products and explain what is available for visitors to buy on a subsidised basis. Managing Director of Taysec Construction Ghana Limited, Jeff Fisher, said the steady growth of the countrys economy calls for improvements in all sectors of the economy -- for which the automotive industry is no exception. He added that the launch of the Accra International Motor Fair - a genotype of those held in Abuja, Johannesburg, Cairo and Lagos - places the country in a strategic position to attract foreign direct investment to boost the economy. This years fair has led to the launch of four different vehicles such as the all-new Honda Civic and Skoda Yeti by the Stallion Group, the Ford Fogi by Mechanical Lloyd, and the Chevrolet Cruz by Africa Motors. The two-day event under the sponsorship of companies such as Lubeco Ghana Limited, Shell Ghana Limited, Viramsun Ghana Limited and Rana Motors, is intended to be made an annual event in the countrys automotive industry.
