Health Minister Resumes Work

The Minister of Health, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, on Monday, October 24 resumed work after his 10-day leave on health grounds. Citi News checks revealed that the minister was supposed to have resumed work on Tuesday, but decided to resume today, taking over from Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, who acted in his absence. A cross section of the public descended heavily on the health minister describing him as insensitive for deciding to go on leave when doctors across the country were striking. Speculations were rife that the minister had been sacked by President John Evans Atta Mills for failing to address the doctors agitation, which falls directly under his ministry. Other media reports also suggested that the minister was in his constituency campaigning instead of solving the strike by the Ghana Medical Association. Mr. Chireh, who confirmed his resumption of work to Citi News said he is thankful to all who prayed for him while on leave. He assured Ghanaians that the current crisis in the health sector will be resolved soon. I am back and I have resumed work and I am receiving the briefings, he stated. I am very grateful to those who were concerned about my work. A lot of people said prayers and others called me personally to wish me well. Chireh added: I am very hopeful that we would soon find a solution to the problemwhat would be done within the next few days will be done to resolve the matter.
