President Mills Accepts Invitation To Visit Cuba

President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday said he had accepted an invitation to visit Cuba at the instance of the Cuban President Raul Castro. The invitation was contained in a special message from the Cuban leader through his Vice, Mr Estaban Lazo Hernandez, when the latter called on President Mills at the Osu Castle in Accra, as part of a four day official visit to Ghana. President Mills praised the warm relations between Ghana and Cuba, and commended the assistance from Cuba to Ghana over the years, mentioning the special sacrifices of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Ghana, who are serving in the remote and deprived areas of Ghana. President Mills said the sacrifices were an indication of the love that Cuba had for Ghana, and expressed appreciation on behalf of the people of Ghana for the sacrifices of the Cuban doctors, two of whom had been indisposed.�Thank God they have now fully recovered,� President Mills said. President Mills reiterated Ghana's support for calls to lift the US economic blockade against Cuba, and the release of the Cuban Five held in the US. He recalled the visit of Vice President John Mahama to Cuba last March, and pointed out that the visit was to enhance the co-operation between the two nations for mutual benefit. President Mills stressed the need for nations to come together to address challenges that confronted the international community. Mr Hernadez, traced the history of Accra and Havana, in the period after Ghana�s independence, and stressed that the two countries needed to enhance their co-operation for mutual benefit. Present at the meeting were Prof Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor, Chairman of the Council of State and Ghana�s Former Ambassador to Cuba, Mr David Sarpong Boateng, Ghana�s current Ambassador to Cuba, and other top Government officials.
