NPP TESCON Lobby's For Party's Running Mate

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Network of Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday entreated the party�s hierarchy and 2012 Presidential Candidate to choose his running-mate from the region. The network is made up of Sunyani Polytechnic, Sunyani Nurses� Training College and Berekum College of Education branches of TESCON. �We the Brong Ahafo Network and alumna would like to appeal to Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and the council of elders, as well as national and regional executives and all those who have a say in the appointment of the running mate for our candidate to consider the choice of a person from a region, which is all embracing and can unify the southern and northern parts of the country for victory 2012�, the network said. This was contained in a press statement jointly signed by Dan Owusu Ameyaw, President of Sunyani Polytechnic TESCON, Mark Koranteng Otoo President of the Sunyani Nurses� Training College, Isaac Oduro, President of Berekum College of Education TESCON and Kofi Akodie, Public Relations Officer of TESCON Alumna and made available to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani. �The concerns arising from the youth in Brong-Ahafo reflects on the idea that the appointment of a running mate from the region will signify a reward to the people of Brong-Ahafo for the contribution of the Danquah-Busia tradition and their achievements as an honour to the NPP and a credit to the people of the region. �On ethnicity, the Network indicated �the predominant ethnic group is Akan, 62.7 per cent, followed by Mole-Dagbon, 15. 4 per cent and Grunsie 4.2 per cent�, which is within the Akan group, Brong, (Bono, including Banda) are the largest sub-group (61.4 per cent).�This is followed by Ashanti 13.3 per cent and Ahafo 9.5 per cent. Among constituents of the Mole-Dagbon group the Dagaaba are the largest, 44 per cent subgroup. �Almost all the ethnic groups reside in the region that makes it a peaceful place to live,� the statement said. It said since 1969, after Prime Minister Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, the region had not had a privilege of having a presidential candidate or running mate. �The National Democratic Congress realising this, is leaving no stone unturned to entrench itself in the region hence the appointment of its General Secretary, National Organiser and National Deputy Women Organiser, from Brong-Ahafo Region and above all the party having its national congress right here in the region�, the network stated.
