New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has in a statement sympathised with flood victims of last night�s heavy rains which is reported to have killed 5 people. The rain is also believed to have destroyed several properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis. Below is the full statement copied to Citifmonline. com. AKUFO-ADDO SYMPATHISES WITH FLOOD VICTIMS The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has noted with deep concern, reports of widespread flooding in areas of southern Ghana especially in fishing communities and towns along the coastal belt as well as many areas in the Accra and Tema Metropolis. The regrettable destruction of private and public property as well as the yet to be confirmed loss of lives places a huge burden on the national emergency services to employ all the resources at their disposal to help our people in need. Nana Addo has also called on Ghanaians to support each other in this difficult time. The scale of the disaster is such that emergency services may not be able to respond effectively to all places at the right time. He therefore calls on all Ghanaians in a fortunate position to extend a helping hand to do so. In the same vein, he is pleading with the Ghana Medical Association to offer at least emergency service support at this crucial time. Whilst appreciating the basis for their demand, Nana has reiterated his call on the Doctors to offer their services most significantly, at this crucial time. He also has called on the Mills/Mahama administration, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and National Labour Commission to make sure that an amicable solution is reached on the impasse. Whilst Accra has sometimes suffered natural disasters of floods and fires that destroy property, the Flagbearer is of the view that the reported loss of small businesses and domestic properties ought to provide an impetus not only to heighten the urgency of adequate planning and infrastructure in our cities but also heighten awareness of the people to the need for property protection in the form of insurance and other mechanisms that offer some compensation in times of loss.
