Kufuor: NPP Would Support Government

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has promised the Mills administration that the NPP would support it in finding a lasting solution to the perennial flooding in Accra. According to Mr. Kufuor, the flooding of the capital and other parts of the country should be seen as a national concern. He also welcomed President John Mills call for a bi-partisan approach in solving the problem. He however challenged the Mills administration to as a matter of urgency continue with all drainage projects started by the NPP government to save Accra from being inundated from such floods. The former president said these in an interaction with journalists, moments after he touched down in Accra from the USA where he had been to receive his World Food Prize.Whilst describing the devastation as unfortunate, he also expressed his condolence to the bereaved families. Mr. Kufuor promised the NPPs support to government in trying to find solutions to the flooding problem in the capital. He said we pray that the government would give leadership quickly so the drainage which we started would be continued in earnest so that Accra which happens to be a flat land would be saved from such future disasters. It is a sad day and I believe I speak for myself and former vice president Aliu Mahama that our hearts are out with the bereaved families and all people afflicted by the deluge. We hope that the government would tackle the problem urgently and we would all support it to do the right thing.
