Asiedu Nketia's Comments On Rawlings Very Disappointing - Adams

A deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Kofi Adams says his partys leadership should consider tackling the problem of disunity it is currently faced with rather attempting to sideline the partys founder. Reacting to comments made by the partys General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to the effect that the NDC will win the 2012 general elections whether the founder of the party, Mr Jerry Rawlings campaigns for it or not, Mr Adams described the comments as very unfortunate and disappointing. The Party General Secretary is quoted as saying there is no basis to beg Mr Rawlings to campaign for the party, describing such a situation as an unnecessary evil. He added that even if the party wanted to beg the Rawlingses, his duty as a General Secretary did not include brokering peace between the founders faction and that of President Mills. However, speaking to Citi News, Mr Kofi Adams who is also the former Presidents spokesperson, stated that the partys leadership must consider concerns raised by members of the party even if the concerns are mere perceptions. According to him, it was not right for the General Secretary of the party to go out and speak the way he did since his comments could further worsen the bickering within the NDC party. In politics even perception is as important as the real issue. While senior members of the party are worried and are raising concerns, there should be a way to handle it. He [Rawlings] has not even spoken, it is his people who are raising concerns, if you demean it and talk about it the way he[Asiedu Nketia] has done then it seems you are insulting the person that people are raising concerns about.
